Fresh walnuts
Walnuts are the fruits of the walnut tree. The fruit is surrounded by a hard bivalve shell. Fresh walnut still has a wet shell. Fresh walnuts are therefore also called “wet nuts”. The taste is a bit milder than the dried version.
Availability fresh walnuts
Origin
The walnut orginates in Persia. For a long time it was therefore also called “Persian nut”. The nut was brought to Greece from Persia and later spread throughout Europe by the Romans. Walnut has been eaten in Europe for over 2000 years.

How to store
Fresh walnuts cannot be kept for a long time. Keep walnuts at a dry and cool place outside the fridge.
How to eat
Walnuts are very versatile. Use the nuts for cakes, salads or for breakfast. Before use, break the hard shell of the nut with a nutcracker.
