Pimientos de Padrón

The Pimientos de Padron peppers are very mild in taste. The mild flavour makes these green peppers a delicious snack. They are often served as a tapa. The peppers come from the town of Padron in Spain.

Pimientos de Padron at the Scoville scale

The Scoville scale is used to measure the amount of capsaicin to show the “hotness” of the pepper. Capsaicin is a substance which stimulates receptors on the tongue that are sensitive to heat and pain. This gives a burning sensation. To prevent overheated situations, it is recommended to check the hotness on the Scoville scale!

How to store

Chili peppers have to be kept in a cool place but preferably not in the fridge, as the pepper will lose his taste.

How to eat

It is delicious to grill the Pimientos de Padrón on the barbecue or in a grill or frying pan. They are at their best when blisters start to form. Add a little olive oil and salt and you have a delicious tapas snack. Please note, there may sometimes be a slightly hotter pepper. So it’s a kind of chili roulette and that makes it an extra exciting snack!
