Tombong Coconut
The Tombong coconut, also known as coconut apple, is a hidden sweet surprise that develops inside the hollow core of a full grown, brown coconut once it begins to sprout. The coconut water slowly transforms into a soft, spongy white ball that continues to grow until it fills the entire hollow interior of the coconut. With its unique, airy texture and fresh, mildly sweet flavor, Tombong coconuts are a true delicacy for anyone who appreciates exceptional and pure natural tastes.

Origin
Tombong coconuts are a rare delicacy in Indonesia, where it originates. When a coconut falls to the ground and begins to sprout, the coconut water slowly transforms into soft, spongy ball which they call the Tombong coconut. This spongy ball absorbs the coconut water and grows slowly bigger until it fills the entire hollow core from the coconut. Tombong coconuts contain all the nutrients needed to grow a new coconut palm.

How to store
Store Tombong coconuts in an airtight container, preferably in the refrigerator. For the best flavor and texture, consume it within a few days.
How to eat
Tap around the hard shell using the blunt side of a large knife until a crack forms. Turn the coconut and repeat until the nut splits open. Pull the two halves apart and gently remove the white, spongy ball with your hands or by using a spoon.
Because of its mild sweetness and unique texture, Tombong coconuts are a surprising addition to all kinds of dishes, both sweet and savory. Its absorbent nature allows it to soak up other flavors effortlessly, making it perfect for sauces, marinades, and refreshing dressings. Its natural sweetness makes it ideal for desserts, pastries, and fruit salads. Its unique texture also works beautifully in cocktails, giving them a delicious creamy, tropical twist. You can slice the flesh into strips, grate it for an elegant garnish, or simply enjoy it as an exotic snack. The fresher the Tombong coconut, the sweeter the flavor.
