— VEGETABLES – PEPPERS
Habanero
This spicy pepper is one of the hotter peppers. Habanero peppers can be red, yellow and orange coloured. They look a bit like a mini capsicums in shape, but it’s better not to mix these two up ?
Habanero at the Scoville scale
The Scoville scale is used to measure the amount of capsaicin to determine the “hotness” of the pepper. Capsaicin is a substance which stimulates receptors on the tongue that are sensitive to heat and pain. This gives a burning sensation. To prevent overheated situations, it is recommended to check the hotness on the Scoville scale!

Origin
The name “Habanero” means “from Havana” but strangely enough; the pepper isn’t originally from Cuba, but from the Yucatan peninsula. After the Europeans discovered this island, the pepper was distributed globally.
