— VEGETABLES- PEPPERS
Pepperoncino
Pepperoncino is simply the Italian translation of the word chili pepper. The Italian peppers are quite hot and score 15.000 to 30.000 on the Scoville scale. The annual Pepperoncino festival is held every year in the Calbric town of Diamante! Ten thousand people come in the town and there is a food competition where the person wins, who have eaten the most pepperoncino.
Pepperoncino at the Scoville scale
The Scoville scale is used to measure the amount of capsaicin to show the “hotness” of the pepper. Capsaicin is a substance which stimulates receptors on the tongue that are sensitive to heat and pain. This gives a burning sensation. To prevent overheated situations, it is recommended to check the hotness on the Scoville scale!

Origin
This pepper was first found in a dish by Antoni Latini. This dates back to the year 1694. But the pepper has probably been eaten in Southern Europe for much longer. And is originally from South America.

How to store
Chili peppers have to be kept in a cool place but preferably not in the fridge, as the pepper will lose his taste.
How to eat
Halve and remove the seeds before use (unless you really like spicy, of course ). If necessary, use gloves when you prepare these peppers and do not rub in your eyes. Make now a delicious pasta Arabiata or a pasta aglio, olio and pepperoncino.
