Java Fresh
JavaFresh tells the story of three people whose paths converged in 2014. Swasti and Margareta became friends in high school in Jakarta and in 2014 Swasti met Robert. Robert was a friend of Margareta, whom she had met at university in Singapore. Robert was now working as an engineer, Margareta was a journalist and Swasti worked at a microfinancing bank. A friendship developed and during a chat Robert asked himself one day: “Why don’t we start something with fresh fruit? There is an abundance of fruit in Indonesia, the world is so big, there is enough for everyone!”
Until that point, the country had had no confidence in the wonderful products Indonesian nature has to offer. Indonesian fruit was as yet unknown beyond its shores. The general attitude was: “Who will actually want to eat this fruit? Is the quality good enough?” Swasti, Margareta and Robert started to change these attitudes. They discovered that the quality of the fruit was actually very high, and on top of that, pesticides are rarely used in Indonesia, so the fruit grown there is pure and natural.
Thus the JavaFresh brand was born. A strong brand with products such as mangosteen, snake fruit and kaffir limes, all available year round thanks to the geographical spread of the islands in the Indonesian archipelago and their tropical climate. When the harvest is over in Sumatra, harvesting moves on to the next island. And then on to the next, and so on, so produce can be picked somewhere in Indonesia almost all the time, while the other islands start preparing for the next crop. There are now more than 100 people working in the management team and the five packhouses spread over Sumatra, Java and Bali.
— SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Good working invironment
In Indonesian culture, it’s not always a given that women can work. But under Robert, Swasti and Margareta’s leadership, JavaFresh’s five packhouses are mainly staffed by women. “We want to offer them a good working environment. We have a lot of women in the 40-50 age group working for us, whose children are already older and have flown the nest. This will often be their first job and you can soon see them starting to flourish. They earn their own money, which boosts their self-confidence. And that’s so lovely to see,” Swasti says.

Mangistan
This special fruit is known as one of the most delicious fruits in the world, and luckily is available year round! The white flesh under the thick skin is soft and is similar to lychees in taste and structure. Mangistan is cultivated on a small scale, making it a fairly rare fruit.

Kaffir lime
The kaffir lime is all about the zest. This particular wrinkled peel is used for its intense aroma. It’s not surprising that this wonderful scent is often used in perfumes!
And of course it can spice up your dinner as well. Grate the skin and use it in curries and bumbu, for example.
— QUALITY CONTROL
Feel for quality
JavaFresh has GlobalG.A.P. certification and follows these procedures to the letter. It also complies strictly with the required quality controls. “We have a committed team of people, each of whom is passionate about our products. Take mangosteen, for example: it’s a difficult product in terms of quality control. With many types of fruit, you can tell a lot about their quality by looking at them. But that’s harder with mangosteen. You have to be able to estimate the weight by feeling it and then decide what quality it is based on that. Our people are highly experienced in this now.”
