Black radish
This forgotten vegetable is black on the outside and beautifully bright white on the inside. Black radish is similar to white tip radish but milder and a bit mustard like. Black radish is one of the oldest cultivated crops.

Origin
Black radish is one of the oldest cultivated crops. It probably originated around the Mediterranean Sea about 2500 BC. The black radish did not arrive in the Netherlands until the late Middle Ages.

How to store
Do not store black radish in the fridge but it in a cool and dry place.
How to eat
Black radish has to be peeled before use. Thereafter you can cut in into slices, cubes or strips. Most of the time black radish is eaten raw in salads. But you can also roast or stew it.
