Mexican prickly pears are distinguished by their sweet taste and the amazing ruby red color of their flesh. Prickly pears have the best resistance to drought, with more than 1,000 species inventoried in regions where rain is rare. The plant has long, round and flat paddle-like branches covered with spines. In season, the cactus produces beautiful flowers that become oval fruits of about 5 to 10 cm long.
