Tropical temptations: experience the magic of Indonesian fruits
The tropical climate makes Indonesia not only the perfect place for a winter escape, but also to grow an array of tropical fruits. In fact, some of these fruits grow nowhere else in the world. The widespread islands in the Indonesian archipelago ensure that many fruits are available year-round. When the harvest on Sumatra is over, the harvesting moves to the next island. And then to the next island, so there’s always a place to harvest and the other islands can prepare for another round.
Fruit (buah) is an important part of the Indonesian diet. Markets are filled with all kinds of fresh, tropical fruit. There are many different ways in which fruits are used in Indonesia. Of course, they are made into juices and smoothies, but fried fruits are also popular. Furthermore, they are often processed into cakes or sweetened and preserved into manisan buah (candied fruit), or into keripik (chips). Also nice is the authentic dish rujak. This is basically a fruit salad, but with a spicy palm sugar sauce. But most of the time, it is simply eaten fresh as a healthy snack.
We have selected the most delicious fruits from Indonesia for our assortment. Which ones have you tried? Psst… At the bottom of this page you will find a delicious tropical ice cream recipe!
